Product Description
689. Cobalt (III) chloride forms compounds of the following composition with ammonia: CoCl3 6NH3; CoCl3 5NH3 H2O; CoCl3 5NH3; CoCl3 4NH3. The action of the AgNO3 solution leads to the practical precipitation of all the chlorine from the first two compounds, about 2/3 of the chlorine from the third compound, and about 1/3 of the chlorine from the fourth. Measurements of the electrical conductivity of solutions of these compounds show that the first and second decay into four ions, the third into three, and the fourth into two ions. What is the coordination structure of these compounds? Write the equations for their decay into ions.
