1. The Fe(OH)3 sol was obtained by adding 19 cm3 of 2% FeCl3 solution to 86 cm3 of boiling distilled water. The salt is partially hydrolyzed by FeCl3:
FeCl3 + 3H2O → Fe(OH)3 + 3HCl
