Using table. 8, part 3, find the first (Eu1) and third (Eu3) ionization energies of a given atom. Using formulas (4.7) and (4.6), calculate the effective charge of the atomic nucleus (Z * ) and the average distance (r) between the outer valence electron and the nucleus for an atom and its ion. Draw conclusions about how the radii change when moving from atoms to positively charged ions.
