Bombardier's modular TRAXX locomotives have become one of the most widespread locomotive families in Europe and include BR 185.5, now available for Train Simulator. Bombardier's TRAXX family (which stands for Multinational Rail Applications with Extreme Flexibility) is a modular product platform for electric and diesel-electric passenger and freight locomotives, designed to produce core models quickly and efficiently for various European railway companies. The first version of the TRAXX was a double-circuit alternating current locomotive built in 1996 for the German railway network, with direct current and diesel versions added in subsequent years, and about 1,000 models have been built to date. In July 1998, Adtranz, later bought by Bombardier, received an additional order for 400 medium-weight BR 185 freight locomotives. They were designed to operate with double voltage to enable international transportation and, in line with TRAXX's philosophy, incorporated parts used on their predecessor, the BR 145, with the addition of European train protection systems and reduced height to meet international dimensions. Europalok, as they became known, had a top speed of 140 km/h (87 miles/h) and worked as a universal freight locomotive. More than 300 BR 185.5 locomotives have been built and sold to various train operators, including leasing companies, across Europe, including Switzerland, France and Germany. BR 185.5 for Train Simulator is available in MRCE black paint, as it looks today on the German railway network as a freight locomotive. The features of the model include the PZB and LZB alarm systems, as well as the tanks of Zacns 95 freight wagons. The locomotive is also compatible with Quick Drive, which gives you the ability to drive the MRCE BR 185.5 on any route that supports Quick Drive for Train Simulator, such as those available through Steam.
