Product Description
In October 1971, an atomic clock was placed on a Boeing 747 aircraft, which was flying at an altitude of 10 km at a speed of 1000 km/h from west to east. Exactly the same clocks remain on earth, allowing time to be recorded with an accuracy of 1 ns (1 ns = 10-9 s). The plane flew for 2.5 days, then the clocks were compared. What is the difference between the clock readings on the plane and in the ground laboratory? What contribution does the rise in altitude make, and what contribution does the speed of movement make?
