Product Description
A rod made of a material having Young's modulus E = 200 GPa has a cross section of s1 = 2 cm2 at a length l1 = 1 m and a cross section of s2 = 3 cm2 at a length l2 = 2 m. The rod is fixed on a vertical plane. It is subject to tensile forces F1 = 600 kN and F2 = 800 kN (Fig.). Find the maximum tensile stress in section I - I and the stress at the fastening (section II - II) arising under the action of the indicated forces, as well as the elongation of the rod under the action of these forces. Neglect the mass of the rod.
