Product Description
An elevator car of mass m = 1000 kg is lowered uniformly at a speed v0 = 1 m/s. When the elevator dropped to a distance l = 10 m, the drum jammed. Calculate the maximum force acting on the cable due to a sudden stop of the elevator if the cross-sectional area of the cable is S = 20 cm2, and the Young's modulus of the cable is E = 2•1011 N/m2 (l is the length of the undeformed cable). Neglect the change in cable cross-section.
