Product Description
A beaker of height H and cross-section S, closed by a weightless piston, contains a gas with molecular weight. The piston is lowered and the freed part of the beaker is filled to the brim with mercury. At what values of gas temperature can one find a position of the piston at which the piston will be in equilibrium (i.e., mercury poured into a beaker will not be ejected by gas pressure)? The mass of the gas in the beaker is m, and the external pressure is assumed to be zero.
